I made one for my daughter to keep her lipsticks in. she used to sit them on her dresser and then her cats would bat half of them under the bed or dresser by night. I'm going to make 1 to sit next to my sewing machine to hold the things I use frequently while siting there. ahem ripper. and one to take room to room when doing hand stitching in front of the tv. and maybe a few larger ones for the grands favorite match box cars and I am making one today and making a "roof" for it. it will look like a house and is for the 2 yr old we babysit on occasion for her little dolls. love your fall fabrics. could be cute with pine cones on the side table. hmm. yes a basket would work but I like these

Our sewing group is going to work on making these this Tuesday. All the ladies are excited to do them.

Moonrise, how did you sew the inside flaps? I tried making one of these boxes yesterday, and my flaps don't seem to lie as flat as yours.

I hate hate hate hand-sewing, so I "cheated".

First I used 6-strand embroidery floss and a large-eyed needle to tie the buttons onto the corners of the flaps. Simple as tying a knot.

Then I used my hot glue gun and put a dab on each of the interior "wings", and glued them down.

Then I used hot glue to glue down the exterior flaps. The button knots end up being between the flap and the outside of the box, so they're covered completely. The knots don't show from the inside at all.

Other than tying the buttons on, there's no hand-sewing.

(Did I mention how much I hate hand-sewing? LOL!)

moonrise- that is a GENIUS idea! Those flaps were pesky to sew down!
