You can also do what I did, and make one for yourself. Just roll up a small magazine and enclose it in fabric... and, wah la, you have your own strip stick.

I run my thumb nail along the seam first when pressing on the right side as if I were finger pressing. the apply iron.

I am not sure how to describe how I press. I press the side of the seam to lock the stitches and the I carefully press the side of the seam to whatever direction I wish it to do. I do the opposite of what everyone else is saying because I press strip sets with Bargello after I have stitched them all. But if you get your stitches press, it will lock them into the fabric and you might not have as much of a problem. Never heard of a strip stitch!! I use to watch SIMPLY QUILTS to be informed of new products but that show was cancelled many years ago.

Another vote for the strip stick. I had heard of them, and purchased one as soon as my LQS got them in. I do a lot of quilts which call for open seams. It makes all the difference!

I sew 2 strips together, and press them, then add the 3rd strip and press that seam. Much easier than sewing all 3, and then pressing. I also like to "set" the seam by pressing while the fabrics are still right sides together, and pressing on the fabric that the seam will be pressed towards.

I made about a doz. ..and gave to my little group of BFF QUILTERS. Easy to make ,so handy .

I'm with AudreyB. I use the edge of the ironing board for a strip stick.
