Is there a 12 inch by 24 inch ruler?

I don't think so, but Creative Grids has the most marvelous 20 1/2" square!!! It's very pricey, but I have used it so many times that if I had paid for it, I would have gotten my money's worth. It was a gift from students to whom I did a Mariner's Compass workshop for. It has these little circles of abrasive stuff & it doesn't slip at all. If I hadn't spent so much $$$ on 24" rulers, including Omni-Grip 8 1/2" x 24", I'd get more of the Creative Grids rulers.
What you can do for wider cuts than your ruler is wide, use another ruler that is big enough either way to get the width you want. Square up the right edge, but don't flip it over to cut. Next, place the ruler you're going to use to measure the width by. Line up the inches of the width - like 9 1/2" on the now straight line. This will be perpendicular to the straight edge of the fabric. Now, while holding on to the measuring ruler with your right hand, gently slide your cutting ruler over to the left edge of the measuring ruler. Make sure the entire cutting ruler's edge is touching the measuring ruler's edge the entire length. Holding firmly the cutting ruler in place, slide the measuring ruler to the right, exposing the cutting edge of the cutting ruler. Cut your fabric. This is lengthy for a really simple process, but you can cut a 34" wide cut if you need to! I've been doing this for decades - way back to when rotary cutting first came out! Yes, I'm about as old as dirt - he's my older brother!
Happy cutting.
