Can somebody help me with windows 8? Can't find print

I read tech articles and a lot of the geeks that hated Vista also hate Windows 8. These same geeks loved Windows 7 when it first came out, so I don't think it's always the newness. One of our laptops needs to be replaced soon and I hope I can load windows 7 on the new one (if I can't find one that already has it).

Windows 8
I have Windows 8 on my desktop and Windows 8.1 on the laptop. When I first received them I bought the Windows 8 for Dummies and Windows 8 for Seniors. I never touched the computers for several days and then told myself if others can learn them so can I (even my hubby can work them now). There are still days I have to search for things but all in all I am happy with them.

I just wanted to say that I understand everyone's frustration. I am going from Vista to Windows 8. I couldn't even figure out how to shut the computer off. Needless to say, I am still fighting with my slow Vista computer because I think it is even slower trying to get Windows 8 to work.

I am trying to find a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit to put on my computer. I will replace this Win 8, I just so totally hate it and almost never get on that computer, still using the old ones. I have windows 7 disk now but its 32bit

Verna, what's the difference between Windows 8 and Windows 8.1? I saw where I could do a free download for it but I'm having enough trouble with just 8 without yet more new confusing stuff. I still haven't found how to put a link into an email or how to put digital pix into a mail. I tried to put Solitaire on but it seems they want so much more than before when I had it on my desktop. I find I don't spend nearly as much time on here as I used to. Oh, maybe that's a good thing. LOL. Spending more time on my sewing mach. LOL

Actually I did download but the upgrade and I didn't really see any difference in it. Download Classic Shell. I did and it makes it almost just like Windows 7. Still have trouble with some things but its so much better now.

A couple of tips - 1) to find different settings or applications, use the search facility. Press the windows button on keyboard to go to home screen, move cursor to upper or lower right corner and on the popout that appears, click on the magnifying glass icon. You can then search on apps, settings, etc. For instance, to change a default printer, click on settings and search on "default printer." Then click on what appears on left.
2) To power down or restart - same thing, move cursor to upper or lower right corner of screen, click on Settings in the popout, then click on Power at bottom of screen.
3) For normal work, it's easy to use the old interface, just click on the Desktop icon on the main screen.
