The price is crazy low.
How often did she have it serviced, yearly?
Try sewing on it with monofilment thread, I bought a used machine that couldn't. Turns out the hook was bad. I love the 730, you will also. The BSR is great.

Run, don't walk to check it out....that is a great deal. I love my 440QE. I don't have the embroidery, that alone was 1000 extra when I bought my machine........when it first came out.....at the Bernina dealer a couple of months ago, the 440 was $2200, used.

I have had the 730E and loved it. It is a good machine. I traded up to the 830E and have not looked back. Personally, I would spend the extra money (if possible), and purchase from the dealer. He will back up the machine he is selling to you if there any problems causing to have a good relationship with the dealer who will service in the future. Tell him your option and ask what he can offer that might be comparable. Otherwise go for it. $840 is a great price.

Regarding the embroidery. Once you try it, you will love the results. I didn't think I would use mine, but am so glad it is available to me. Use it all the time now, particularly when I need to make a very nice gift.

I bought a Viking Designer I used, from a shop. The repairman is able to tell how many hours the machine has sewed and how many hours the embroidery was used. I love it. Having said that, shortly after buying it, the new machines came out using a jump drive. Mine takes the floppy. We weren't told this would change and we didn't know enough about it to ask. We had to purchase a converter, used, to convert the jump drive to floppy for the new patterns. Let the buyer beware.

I have been very happy with the Bernina machines and just yesterday I upgraded to the 880! You won't regret having the BSR and walking foot. I have given the basic models to our daughter and daughter-in-law and they are very happy with the Bernina as well. I wouldn't hesitate purchasing a Bernina!

I would go and check out the Bernina. If you can test drive it and make sure it feels secure, that is a great price

I have 2 older Berninas, awesome machines! I have the 930 & 1031, bought the 1031 new and still use it quite a lot.

I thought the 700 series was much newer than that!

Does CL ad for the 730E mention "need to sell to cover expenses" ? I have purchased several machines on CL, but be careful of scammers, high end machines are a popular target.
