I'm told that purple goes with anything; however, I like to choose my own colors and "do my own thing" when it comes to piecing quilt tops. I guess if I liked a particular shade of color, I would use it, but I doubt that I would just because a worldwide authority says that I need to use it. Does that make sense?

I love purple! So, this will be my favorite years on the color wheel of pinks to purple! Just think about what the designers are going to do with the fabrics! It should be marvelous! Bright, bold, maybe even bring back the big flowers? Can't wait to see what they do!

<didn't that="" used="" to="" be="" called="" communism?="">
No, actually consumerism. Drive the public to NEED to buy by creating that need. --The new color is radiant orchid? I must go buy a new kitchen aid mixer to go with my fabulous radiant orchid kitchen towels, for my emerald green one is too passe.--
The color of the year may not dictate everything, but a huge number of the choices you have in shopping for clothing, makeup, housewares, cars, paint -- all key off of the color predictions and pronouncements.
I'm going to use this year's color as an argument for maintaining a good stash of colors that I actually like. Because we all need a healthy collection of reasons to buy more fabric.

Purple is my favorite color so it will probably end up in something this year. I don't really care what the color of the year or fashion of the year is. I just buy what I like. Thanks for showing us. That is a pretty color.

"Trendy is not something I want to quilt", Coopah, I agree. I know we will see a lot of this color in the stores and mixed with other colors, it will probably be attractive. But I consider it a suggestion not a mandate.

I'm not a fan of purple in any way. This just means I'll have to "plow" through more of these fabrics to get to the ones I really want- jewel reds, blues, greens. That said I have a 10 year old DGD who wants to sew/quilt with grandmom's help. Wonder what color group I'll be working with this year???

Looks like I'll be saving a lot of money in 2014. The only similar shades I'll be getting close to are in the Hoffman Challenge fabric, and even they have finally decided to scale way back on their use of pale, washed out purples and gigantic florals.
Radiant Orchid may be just the right color for some people and/or some things, but it's definitely not right for me or for my quilts. Not even close.
