I got my cd in the mail yesterday. Hope to take a look at it over the weekend.

[QUOTE=carriem;6441726]KC21--welcome! The book tells you what percentage to "shrink" the patterns when printing if you want a smaller block than 12". I am not familiar enough with EQ to know if you can upload a block pattern and resize it...you'll have to let us know how that works out for you.

Thanks for the welcome carriem. I'll need the encouragement to hang in for all 50 blocks! Ordered my book last night and picked out background fabric.

How big is the finished quilt? 50 - 12" blocks sounds like 2 quilts or one giant 120" quilt. Whatever I'm almost ready!!!

I am so happy to do this with the group. I started it last time, but with my Mom and her health problems, I never did get any made. Hopefully this will spur me on!!!!

Blessings!

The finished size will be up to you. Some of us are making 2 smaller quilts. Others will just use 49 blocks (a 7x7 setting...12" blocks would be 84"x84" with no sashing or borders). Still others will make extra blocks to be sure all 50 can be used in the same quilt.

Okay, I put the cd in to check things out. When I changed the size to make an 8 inch block it prints out parts of the pattern on two pieces of paper. Do you use legal size paper? I will have to check if my machine will take larger size paper. Thanks so much.

NYgal, I don't have the 50 stars CD but in EQ7 & Dear Jane software there is a way to print the patterns on separate pages. I just learned this (so proud of myself). When you're ready to print your block, hit preview, go to the top tool bar and hit Move, take your mouse and hover over the "split" section and drag it to a better location.

Again, don't know if this is on the 50 stars CD but hope this helps. I hated cutting apart the sections then taping them together.

nygal--are you printing the section at 6"? I am planning to make 10" blocks so was thinking I needed to put 10" in the place asking for "block size"...it should say "section size", so if you want 12" blocks, print the section at 6" and it will all be on one page. Hope that works for you!

**Sorry...I read your email and then did a practice printing before reply so forgot you said 8" block...you would just need a 4" section then and that will for sure fit.

Thanks carriem, That worked!! I am going to make the 8" size blocks. If I make all 50 I don't want them huge. I am sort of thinking on the terms of when I did my Dear Jane quilt which was not paper pieced but I liked the small size blocks.

I am having second thoughts on my fabrics. I really LOVE using Batiks...I am in a BOM now using them. I am tempted to continue and use them for this new BOW too. Decisions...decisions... I am not a "solid" fabric person I am drawn to prints. Yet I don't want my blocks SO busy that you lose the effect of the designs. With Batiks I get all the color I want and a little bit of prints at the same time...any advice?? I am open to suggestions.

I am thinking I am going to use Batiks for my stars. I love the effect of the batiks. Especially if you have one that has lots of colors in the same piece of fabric, only one fabric needed with one like that. I will be finalizing my fabrics after Christmas.

I am finishing up 2 more t-shirt quilts, and an over under pattern that are commissioned for me to do. Waiting for the one at the quilter to get finished so I can get it bound. Could have used a quilt to bind this past weekend with the freezing weather we have had here in Texas.

Off to do some more sewing.
