I am thinking of doing this one QAYG, one row at a time. Alaska and Hawaii will be my pillow shams as they are not connected by land to the 48 states. Today I make the triangles going by the directions given on this site...in Kona Snow and I am basically thinking red, white and blue for the stars....will see as we get into the actual project.

Book has arrived. I'm deeply disappointed that the CD doesn't have the patterns on it so I can resize without dealing with a xerox machine. No matter. I'm determined to give this a go. If I can get a quarter of a star completed every week, I'll be thrilled. New grandbaby arriving next week. :-) Happy New Year everyone! -- J

ibex94--there is a program at quiltpro.com you can buy to download, then you can re-size and print accordingly. http://quiltpro.com/page/Foundation_...0_Fab_Mainpage You *do not* have to have quilt pro to use this program.

Thank you for letting me know. I should have bought this instead of the book. Oh well. The pictures are pretty in the book, lol, and it provides the % to reduce the patterns in the book but if xeroxing drives me crazy, I'll spend the money for the program, too. Thanks!!

QuiltingNinaSue, I thought the same thing. What if there was one with a light background and one with a dark background. But I am holding back for now. I don't know how I'll feel in August. I love your idea of having Hawaii and Alaska as pillows since they aren't on the mainland. That's clever.

Making some progress. Took my book to Staples today and had the binding cut off so I could photocopy the foundation templates more easily. Now it's time to pick out the fabrics from my stash and start making the blocks. I just can't seem to decide what colors/fabrics I want to use. Batiks are beautiful but maybe 30's or brights or Asians or something else would be pretty too. I change my mind every time I think about it....LOL.

I would call them before going up there to see if they have the spiral. I hadn't thought about doing that to mine, what I have done with other books, it after the binding is cut off is put is sheet proctectors in a binder.

I get quite a few books spiraled. The staff at staples know me by sight. I even spiraled my new Dear Jane book that I got last week. Spirals make life a lot easier. . . . GP
