My Alaska block has some really big lumps where the fabric comes together. But all's well so far.

I found that issue when I did the California block in 8". But it turned out great.

Ladies, back you center seams off for the seam allowances, then it will twirl around and not bind in the center. Learned that doing my stack and whack quilts. Rip out that last two to three stitches before you get to the center edge. Try it and you might surprise yourselves.

When you sew the seam to join the sections together, stop where the two line become one in the center about 1/4 from the edge. Leave it unsewn, so it can form a 'circle' underneath and not bunch up. Will take a picture of the back side of my Alaska block so you can get a visual of what I am saying. The last seam that joins the two parts together, you do sew that one, but make sure the other points twirl and do not bunched up in sewing it together.

I know what you mean QNS. I try to do that too but there are times I forget I shouldn't sew the 1/4 " seam.
When I was making the Sylvia blocks some had to be beaten into submission though........

Ok I will attempt to show pictures illustrating what I am saying:Right side up wedges made.Wrong side up showing 1/4 seam allowance.Sewing from the center out, starting on the seam allowance, 1/4 inches out from the center...to the outer edge of piece.the triangles are sewn together, pressing seam 'open' to make less bulk. Again each quarter will start in the center out, leaving that 1/4 seam allowance.Wrong side all pressed seams pressed open...so the right side will be matched and no bulk in center. And that is my Alaska Star, blue for the ocean,Glaciers, the sky, the Air Force, Black with gold petals for the 'black gold'=oil, red for the propane gas their burn off their drilling holes, and dark blue with dots to represent the 6 months of winter, snow and dog sled racing. Gold stars also represent the gold still found in the Alaskan streams and mountains. Hope you all can see and follow the info.
