I love all the swaps and sewing when I want. I thought I would buy a new sewing machine ,but I still love my singer so we will see.

Here is my block for Gaijin.....Ok .....I know....I went a little overboard...not just hanging overboard but completely overboard. Maybe because I have a daughter who makes her home in Japan - Kagoshima City in south island. I only get to see here every other year ( that includes my grandchildren too) My son-in-law is a teacher born in Japan. I have been to visit many times. I opened this fabric and it reminded me of a Japanese fan that my granddaughter Lilia gave me for Christmas. Miss them. Gaijin, I am making a second block a little less busy. My heart has been in Japan all day. Thank you for sending this fabric.

Thank you! This was not really as challenging as it may look. I used a 9 degree, circle wedge ruler. (long, will make 36" circle) First sewed together two alternating fabrics to make a 24 inch row of 2 1/2 x 6 inch strips ( like a keyboard row using only two alternating fabrics). Then I added a row under that of one solid fabric 2 1/2 inches, then another solid row (you can make the solid rows as deep as you like as long as when finished your total piece is at least 14 inches x 18 inches wide to be able to cut a 12 1/2 x 12 1/3 inch block. Then cut "v" shaped strips by alternating the ruler from point upward to point downward.(Instructions come with the ruler. Then sew the strips together in the same order they were cut. Just straight stitch sewing and careful cutting. This ruler is great for making a lot of fun things.

After sleeping and dreaming about this block, I made a minor adjustment. OCD???? A little

Oh Bee Betty, I know what you mean about the grandkids. Mine are in Australia and I see them every 14 months or so.
I love your block. It is so pretty. Did you paper piece it?????

God's Child, (what a nice name),

No, I did not. The 9 degree ruler builds in the 1/4 inch seam allowance. I have made many Dresden Plates with this ruler. The ruler I have is 18 inches long so it makes large circle designs. I have never made a block before. This experiment has inspired me to make a quilt with one of these in each corner and something complimentary in the center. Perfect for many of beautiful Asian prints.

I so much miss my grandchildren. They will visit me again in August for 4 weeks. I cannot wait.

Thank you! I appreciate all the positive comments. Many of my "special projects" do not turnout so well
