Please know that not all big stitch needs to be done on or looks best on 'country' or 'primitive' looking quilts!
Try it on lots of projects, art quilts, lap quilts, table toppers, pillows and enjoy the process!

My favorite wool batted, big stitch hand quilted quilt is a traditional block done in florals and neutral background. It's soft and pretty, not country at all, in my opinion. I use it on all sorts of patterns because the big stitch is easier on my arthritic, nerve-damaged hands. I can feel the needle because it's larger and the larger stitch makes the whole job go a bit faster.

I have been told that it doesn't matter the size of the stitch but that they are all consistent, even and uniform.
Your's are looking beautiful………..

Jan, what size needle do you use? I know I'm headed this direction, too... no complaints, but my joints are starting to let me know about it!!

Lovely work and beautiful stitches!
I too like the look of the big stitch. I do a lot of big stitch on a variety of quilt type projects. I'm now doing a pre-printed whole cloth quilt in navy blue perle cotton. While it's a "big" stitch, I vary the length of the "big" stitch to be proportional to the type of quilt I'm doing. I've used a smaller stitch with perle cotton on a miniature quilt and came out lovely. As far as needles, I've used the Clover Sashiko needle, DMC Embroidery 1-5 needles. I've done a lot of Sashiko- preprinted navy patterns with a Sashiko white thread. Much easier on the hands, etc. and a lovely look.
