    I border everything. I think it helps to stabilize the edges for binding. I love your color choices. I would border it in the emerald green, and then bind it with lighter color.

    I think it depends on the use and the surroundings it will be in...
    In a very modern house, it could do with only a dark green binding.
    Otherwise, I think I would prefer a 'complex' border: dark green, not very wide, immediately around the center, then a small pale green, and then the widest strip that would be dark green again. (All rather solid-looking fabrics, but not too massive...)

    Yes, it needs a border. Binding at this stage would take off the points of your blocks all the way around.
