I thought sashing between blocks would be good, too. The blocks that show the rug between them seem livelier than the ones that are right together. Maybe a very narrow red border--like a piping, would be good????

I like adding another sashing between the blocks to 'perk it up, also'. I think it is going to be just fine. you will be surprised how it will grow on you, once it is done. I think a pretty red strip with black corner stones, if it were mine.

If you don't have red, audition other colors. The tan/beige similar to what's in the blocks might work. Another idea might be the sashing setting that forms 8 pointed stars around each cornerstone. I'm sure that setting has a name but it's escaping me right now.

You could also set the blocks on point with a light colored sashing and edge pieces (can't remember the correct term at the moment). That might help you use the other blocks too.

I love your blocks and I think that the suggestions for adding red would be great. I also thought perhaps an orangy color would be a good complement to the brown sashing. Let us see the final product.

Not ugly just needs to be perked up. I have never seen an ugly quilt.

What about black sashing? Something similar to the dark squares in the blocks. I think it would be a great quilt for a guy...looks very masculine. Not ugly to me.
