not ugly, just still in progress. You haven't seen the ugly quilt I am working on because you would think that yours is going to be beautiful

Have you considered using an unbleached muslin for your sashing with dark blood red corner blocks? White might be a little too stark, but the unbleached muslin would still be lighter than your blocks are now. I do NOT believe that your quilt is "ugly." Your blocks are so precisely pieced and your colors go together so well that they are all truly wonderful. Nothing that is so well done as these are could ever be considered "ugly."

I read somewhere that using a large print fabric is good for small borders or binding etc. Maybe that would add interest for the eye to travel. I don't think this is ugly at all but unless my colors are wrong I think a hint of gold would help in the sashing, maybe in the way sashing comes together at the corners and makes a star. Just my opinion.
