Default Bobbin winder rubber alternative ideas???

    RE: Singer model 66 treadle
It's Sat night, I have a quilt I have to work on and my bobbin winder rubber just disintegrated while I was winding up a bobbin. Does anyone know if a fat o ring would work for now, if so what size. Or any other ideas I could try. The only sewing machine store around closed for a week, but we do have a Home Depot.
    I'll try all suggestions.
    Thanks

Wish I could but it shattered in little pieces. It was in the process of winding when it flew apart and pieces went all over.

Those are pretty common and easy to find. Do you have a Target or Wal-Mart? Grocery stores will sometimes have them, too, in tiny little sewing sections. Look in housewares.

Do you have another sewing machine you could take the tire off of?

You can take the whole bobbin winder off - little screw at the top by the balance wheel and WM or Joann's might just have one.

I have a treadle 127; the tires that go on it measure 1" from edge to edge, if that helps. Don't know if they're the same winder or not...

You might consider a sidewinder if you have a place to get one in case you can't get the part.

Hobby Lobby has a belt/bobbin winder package. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/...-belts-304584/

Not that it will help you on a Sunday. Maybe Joann's has them too? You can order them from Sew Classic too. Or try a lego tire?

Use a rubber band or two wrapped around the rim where the bobbin winding tire used to be. You will probably have to hold the mechanism against the hand wheel for it to make contact but all you want to do is create enough friction for the bobbin to spin so it will fill. You don't need it to be as large as the bobbin winding tire but you want enough rubber band on the rim so it doesn't scratch your machine. Hope this helps.
