I like this idea and have actually done this myself. Worked on one square at a time!

You might want to try a straight edge quilting ruler and a darning foot, feed dogs down. You'll be moving the ruler not the quilt. Takes a little time to get used to, but worth it in the end.

Another thought: this is a modern quilt soooo the lines don't necessarily need to be excessively straight!

Perhaps quilting it in smaller sections as in Quilt As You Go method, then assemble?
However, the simple fabric, and extensive quilting will make it stunning!
