I made a bed quilt with 20 Carpenter's Star blocks (a variation of it, see my avatar) that used 2 in. squares. Believe me, not all my points are pointed and it certainly did not come out perfect! But who looks that closely at the finished product? Your dad will love it!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and encouragements. I am making another, and cutting in square separately. I know it takes longer this way.

your quilt looks wonderful. So often we look at something we are making with that super critical eye. The person we give it to is looking at it with the loving, thankful eye. I'm sure your dad is going to be so happy and will not even notice those things that you are upset about. That quilt is not made of fabric and thread, it is made of love from his daughter!

I honestly can't tell that some of the fabrics are going in a different direction. I say proceed! I like it.

Personally, I think your Dad will love this. We are always harder on ourselves than the one recieving the gift. If your Dad is a quilter he may notice the points not being perfect, but if he isn't, he will probably this this quilt is perfect. I would love it. Parents usually see the love that is sewn in every stitch.

Default My Carpenter Star

http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...star-quilt.jpg. I found ironing my seams open to match my points worked best for me. This was a free pattern at patchworktimes.com

I think it is very nice guy quilt that your dad will love! I think some color in the border will make it pop and you could
use a nautical print for the outside border to remind him of the great times in Colon, MI. Be sure and compute extra fabric if you want the print to be visible from all sides and right side up. (since you mentioned this)
