I did think of that after I had already made the chain. LOL.

My cat is fortunate that I love him in spite of his ways.

Could anyone recommend a good book where I can teach myself to crochet? I can do the chaining and the stitches. My problem comes when trying to count and where to end the row -- my baby blankets have a tendency to grow from side to side   Thanks!

I use to crochet all the time before I discovered quilting. One hint: Don't count the beginning chain when there are a lot. Crochet the chain from a separate ball of yarn. Start the first row using another ball of yarn, If you need more chains add them or if you have too many pull some out. No more counting.

My boyfriend has a pet quail (raised him from a hatchling) and he'll go after strings too. I was cross stitching, and the bird would jump at the string and pull it out of the needle.

Don't they know we're trying to work?? :D

Oh any yarn that is in your house will belong to your little kitty. LOL! That is pretty funny story. Thanks for the chuckle...

I don't have my books on hand to tell which are the good ones (we're snowbirds this winter), but I CAN recommend this forum: http://www.crochetville.org/forum/index.php. It's VERY good with loads of info. Good luck!

I had to chain 246 and I had to count it 4 times.
My trick when doing a long chain is to put a small safety pin in every 25th stitch. Then if I lose count I only have to count from the last safety pin.

A couple of kitties ago, I thought it would look homey if I had a basket of yarn balls. YEA, guess how long that lasted and WHAT was I thinking. I came home to find my basket of yarn balls all over the house, unwrapped of course. The kitties I have now also like to grab the thread when I'm crocheting.
