This isn't exactly how they did it on Quilting Arts. It didn't have the raised folds. I just watched it and, unfortunately, deleted it so can't give you the number of the episode

Using a circle to get a hexagon is not new, when I was at school 60's and 70's this was how you drew most shapes with more than 4 sides.

I wanted to try the method and did one flower. I think it will become the top of a pin cushion. I took a picture of the back so you could see the difference from traditional hexies. It has a nice firm feel to it and I think it would be a good method for a nice table topper or bed runner with just a very thin batt or no batt. I don't know that I would want to hand quilt through it but machine quilting would be fine. I used a Philadelphia soft cream cheese lid for my circle and the hexagons ended up an inch and 1/4 on the flat sides. Hope it is okay to posts a picture of my own work?

Someone has a book on circles into hexies..can't remember name now...I have the book. It is an easy way to do them, but because the hexies end up two sided and they are a bit thicker...good way for tablerunners and the like, but I hesitate to think bed quilt......btw the circles are quick to cut with my GO!!!!

Saw aw this as a quick demo on the Oklahoma State shop hop in the Allen, OK. shop. Pretty amazing but circles are more difficult to cut than squares which I use for hexies.
