I was working on some D4P blocks when I got to wondering what it would look like if I cut it diagonally. I put a rough block together with my machine in sore need of some TLC and missed the majority of my points and junctions. Still the effect is quite nice. My husband wanted to see what multiple blocks would look like together so I scanned in the block and created this little digital 4 block design. Has anyone else tried this...there's obviously some tricks, adjustments and techniques that could make this block work out better. I'd love to hear from anyone else who's tried this and how you handled the remodeled block. Thanks.

I like it. I've done a 16 patch cut on the diagonal, but not a 9 patch.

I don't know that there's any "tricks" to get seams to match other than very careful measuring, cutting, and nesting seams.

Looks like it's a lot of fun, though!

Like it! You could also rotate two of the opposing squares to form a completely different design -- I'm envisioning a purple X within a white diamond.

Love the fabric you used but what happened for all the points to be so off??

Neat idea !! First blocks disappear and now they are being whacked diagonally !!

Thanks, Peckish. There is a tutorial on the board, but the link you gave is much clearer. I think the key to getting good points is lining up the straight edges on the triangle units. I had tried to go the other direction estimating my seam allowance. Thanks, again, the directions provided are very helpful.

and sometimes pressing seams open helps too.

Maniac.... this is just one block scanned in & set into a group of 4 so the actual seams don't really show here (at least that's how I understand it.)
