I pay around $70.00. No way am I going to "oil" my computerized machine. Professional maintenance on a $5,000 (MSRP)machine is worth the price to keep it in top shape. Not sure how helpful comparing prices is for different areas. Cost of living varies in each area. My 2 cents.

I'm not sure how much my local guy charges...I took my machine in for her first annual check-up a few months ago and found out I get the first 2 years of service for free! Sweeeeeeet.

BUT...I wouldn't pay $100-something for work on a $200 machine unless that machine had something extremely special about it.

I have had my old Singer serviced for $89. I think the price you were given was very high

I have found that as thread prices go up, the spool quality goes down. I have learned to keep an emery board near my machine for smoothing the ends of the spools so they don't catch as the thread unwinds. Even with the large spool tensioner on the machine the little barbs catch, so I remove them gently. Worked for me when I had a similar problem.

In our area the price is $125 for a cleaning and simple repairs. If a special part is needed, it's more. Sounds like you could buy another machine for the price.
