I think this is such a neat idea - - - I have been organizing my sewing room and now have a BIG bin full of scraps of all sizes (under 5") and a smaller bin of scraps 5 - 9". Then yards and yards of fabric from 9" - 6 yards!! I just need to GET OFF THIS WONDERFUL board now and do some sewing :) Here's to a wonderfully scrappy year!! Happy New Year to all.

What a wonderful idea! I am biased since I make almost nothing but scrap quilts. I just started cutting up my stepfather's old plaid shirts (he was very dear to me and died last March) after seeing a pattern in an Evelyn Sloppy (love love love her!!!) book. So, this will be the urging I need to get something done with them.

This past year working with quilts of valor has given me a new appreciation for scraps ...before I used to toss them now i save them for a couple of the gals who make * mile a minute blocks.. fun stuff !! .

scrappy is good ;)

Backing is up to you whether you purchase or are really thrifty/creative with what you already have!

The thinking here is to be like the women who quilted in pioneer days. They had no shops nearby and had to save worn out shirts and dresses or feedsacks to make a quilt. We can do that too!

For inspiration, please visit www.quiltville.com and read her tips on scrap sorting and see the amazing quilts she has made from them! It is an awesome website.

If you don't already have a scrap drawer, start one! Every time you trim off ends, square up your fabric, etc, put the strips and pieces into light, dark and medium assortments. I got a lot of satisfaction from going through my scraps and making them organized. Mine are in shoe boxes and ziplocs for now. I will have to get the clear storage drawer set up that Bonnie has on her website.

Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with by next Christmas!

Hi, Ya'll. This is Patrice, here. Just wanted to explain why I had the "nerve" to post this to the top with a sticky so it won't move from Page 1. Just so happens, somebody who thinks this is a super idea asked me to find a way to make sure everybody knows about it. This was the best way I could think of to do that.

A few months ago I started cutting 5" squares out of my scraps mainly because all of my kids wanted an old fashioned block quilt. My sister likes to work with strips, so I saved all of the strips worth saving for her. So far I have made 3 scrap quilts and she has made 2  Being frugal is a great thing to get back to. Of corse I won't stop going out and buying fabric  How many of us could  But I will try harder to make use of every little bit that I can

I recently received 3 garbage bags full of scraps to add to my own. I love scrap quilts. Please count me in. I'm new to this site.
