Default Question About Baltimore Album

Does it HAVE to be that funky green and odd red? I know I can make whatever I want. It could be purple and orange. But what I am thinking is all the ones I have seen online that are considered traditional have those colors.

Well those are the colors for the traditional ones. I've seen one with a Halloween theme and Halloween colors. Very cute. If I made one I would use lime green and raspberry colors because that's me!

Traditional red and green colors for Baltimore Album quilts are nice but not necessary--think creative license here!!

One of the most stunning Baltimore Album quilts I ever saw was at the Houston quilt show years ago, done by Japanese quilter Yukiko Hirano in teal, lime green, hot pink, purple and black with white dots. I could not stop looking at it. When it was featured on the cover on Quilter's Newsletter magazine several months later, I bought the issue just because it was on the cover.

So go ahead and choose the palette the pleases you and don't give it another thought.

When I googled them I found you really have to search to find one in olive green & turkey red...most of them were very colorful, spectacular quilts

So, if I did one in shades of blue and tan, it could still be called Baltimore, but not necessarily traditional. That's okay.

The world would be a boring place if we made every quilt in the same colors as the original. The fun in quilting is taking your inspiration and turning it into your own quilt.
