thank you all. i couldn't believe it myself. getting one free sewing machine is really nice but getting 5 free sewing machines with nice cabinets sans iron legs is just pure luck. lucky me - i guess. i've been checking out CL, eBay and everywhere looking for treadle legs. will check Thrift Stores. i just found out that the three Singer SMs that i got are all treadle and can't be converted to hand crank or electric as there's no boss. not unless i drill a hole (which i don't intent to). this will surely be a long projects for me that will keep me busy for awhile. i just love those vintage machines....

Exactly my thought. Some have motor bosses, no? I'd motorize or HC after fabricating supporting legs or cabinets for them. Being a woodworker I'm drooling over the drawers and fancy woodwork.

Singerguy one of my project machines is a Singer 27 with no boss. I think I can make a boss to hang a handcrank from that won't damage the machine. The 27 has a hole on that end that I think I can hook the boss over. It'll probably be a month or so before I get to it. I'll post what I come up with when I get that far.
