Neesie is right. just take two striped squares (pieced or printed that way), place right sides with stripes at right angles. Sew two opposite sides on outside of the squares, cut half square triangles. Sew the two hypotenuses together and the block is done. Sew the sashing to 2 sides of the squares (careful, because the sides of the squares are on the diagonal.

This is the Star Gazing pattern from Quilters Newsletter April/May 2012. I have made a sample block, very easy!

Anita beat me to it. I was going to post a link to her free pattern, which I've personally used. So nice to see the pros keeping tabs on us!

Make It Simpler,

I have just been watching Anita's Craftsy class for a second time. So many worthwhile techniques for relative beginners like me. One of my favourites, very enjoyable. I thoroughly recommend.

I think this works: Start with a larger square, for example 12.5, cut from corners-to-corners. Rearrange and sew off-center and trim/cut a smaller square from it, in this case a 10.5. This way not dependent on the perfect stripe patterns or trying to figure out the optical illusion with each square and also could use two fabric of any design for each block.

Anita, you are the best! I have used other of your patterns and marveled at your thought process that went into the design. Keep us the good work and thank you for making your patterns and expertise so available. Thank you, thank you.

Thanks Anita for the info on the free pattern. Another on my bucket list. I've been collecting stripes for a while now, just wondering what I was going to do with them....now I know.

looks like two squares cut diagonally, one from left top to lower right and the other the right top to lower left. Then sewn together. try it with a scrap of fabric.
