She had my quilt top in her laundry room on the floor, and somehow her cats where chasing each other and managed to knock over a gallon of bleach onto my quilt top (it hadn't been quilted yet) and the top on the bleach wasn't secure, so my quilt top ended up soaking up most of the bleach. The long arm quilter was horrified when she found it. Not only were the colors bleached out, but the fabric in many places had been destroyed by the bleach. There was no saving the quilt. She called me, in tears, and explained what happened. She offered to pay my shipping to her, pay a more than generous amount for the fabric used, and to quilt the next quilt for free. I suppose I could have gotten angry, but what can you do, accidents happen. I've used her for years, and this is the first time she hasn't been 100% perfect with my quilts.

Question: the holidays are coming up, and now I REALLY need to get a queen sized masculine quilt put together in a jiffy. I had done a Jacob's ladder with masculine color and prints (because it's for Ian) but that's a lot of piecing. Can anyone think of a quilt that would look sophisticated yet simple that could be pieced in short order? (All I want is the world, right?) Any suggestions would be appreciated.
WOW! I would not want to be on either end of that conversation. My philosophy is that all things happen for a reason, I am sure your replacement quilt will be just perfect. I love the disappearing nine patch idea!

I hate to be uncharitable, but I would ask for it back, photograph it, and tell everyone I know about it. Leaving your quilt in that area, on the floor and within reach of chemicals, was disrespectful. it's not like the roof suddenly sprang a leak. That would be more of an accident to me. Other quilters should know that their quilts could end up on the floor with animals, bleach or not. Your quilter made a conscious decision to do that.

My vote is for a BQ2 in soft browns and beiges. Maybe with a blue thrown in for good measure? It is fast easy and looks so manly.

By the way, I would give her a break too. Sounds like she has learned a valuable lesson and oh my gosh, what a terrible thing to have to admit to on the phone.

I agree with the WW quilt, I also used a camo and loved the end result. I plan now to make a number of them as they do go quick.

Good Lesson for those who LA commercially. DO NOT HAVE ANIMALS in the same room as customer property. Accidents do happen, but laying a quilt on the FLOOR, in a laundry room? I now ask any LA I'm going to pay the following questions.
    1. Is there a smoker on the property?
    2. Are there animals in the house?
    3. Do you have a studio away from the kitchen?
WHY? Because all of these smells/or dander has affected quilts I've made. Plus animal dander & smoke can adversely affect any one with an allergy.

"my quilt top in her laundry room on the floor"? "cats chasing each other"? "the top on the bleach wasn't secure"?

Yes, accidents happen, but this looks like carelessness with something a customer has spent hours creating and then entrusted to her care.

You're more understanding than I would be. God bless you.

ube Quilting.. I just love this trip around the world..Takes me back 30 yrs. to the first quilt I made for the first grandson...I still have the book from 1980 by Blanche Young & Helen Young.. I had no idea about shortcuts.
I followed their directions to a tee ..Still, the numbered strips for a crib sized "Sunshine and Shadow" quilt is written in the book...That quilt was carried around til it was in shreds...
