My little greatniece wanted to see how close she could get with out running the needle through her finger and about that time her kitty Mrs. Whiskers jumped on her sewing table. Yep right through her finger not the bone just through tip. She's ok but Mom passed out literally!! She got a tetanus last year right before Christmas. Her doctor's mother was a seamstress and advised her getting a tetanus would be a good idea. She waited for her Mom to come to then decided to pull the thread out. Yep mom passed out again. She didn't know how strong her little girl was. These people love to watch horror films but not the real thing. LOL!!

When this happened to me about 1/2 of the needle(embroidery machine)stayed in my thumb, tried all efforts to remove it but in tend had to have it surgical removed. Did hit the bone but was to deep for me ti reach , lesson learned keep hands clear when the machine is running

Hope you have a speedy recovery. I sliced my finger with the rotary cutter, and it didn't heal, so finally went to the doc. He did have me get a Tetanus Shot. Better than having the consequences!

Ouch. Sorry about your finger. But I must admit I got a good laugh when a I read " Then realized that the thread was still attached to the quilt and the machine and so [had to cut it to] pull it thru my finger". I missed the part where you cut the thread and was imagining you pulling the thread quilt machine and all through your finger.

I was working away on a quilt last night doing some Free Motion quilting. The backing fabric is a little "sparkly" and was not sliding around on my table very well. I was wearing Machinger's gloves. Well, ran my second finger of my right hand under the needle somehow. My first reaction was to jerk my hand away. Bent the needle and broke it off. I pulled it out of the other side of my finger. Then realized that the thread was still attached to the quilt and the machine and so had to cut it to pull it thru my finger.
Fortunately It did not go through the nail, nor hit the bone but was far enough in that if the needle had not broken I would have really ripped my finger bad.
Didn't even get blood on the quilt! There is a spot of blood on the top of the glove finger and on the bottom.
It is a bit sore today. I can type "ok" but it is not a happy camper.
I guess I can finally join the club!

oh Gayle, so sorry. Don't make it sound like it's an eventuality!!! 
I am a clutz from way back and don't want membership.
Got to get me one of those forked thingies for pushing my fabric around
near needle. Thanks for the reminder to keep our appendages away.
I hope your finger heals quickly. all the way through? maybe see a doc.
