I only buy yardage and fat quarters now. I hate the zig zag edges on precuts and I had a recent jelly roll that wasn't cut right (there was a big bend at the fabric fold). Moda sent me a new jelly roll to compensate but I still have a lot of charm packs, layer cakes, honey buns and jelly rolls to use up and am now wondering if they are cut accurately. I bought dies for my big shot pro that let me make my own precuts (10", 5" and 2.5" strips).

I don't buy FQs and usually only buy 1/2 yd or greater.

I usually buy minimum 1 yd cuts, although I do pick up fat quarters for baby quilts. I've picked up jelly rolls and layer cakes as souvenirs. But if I'm just going to one of my two favorite local quilt shops, it's yardage for me.

I always have purchased yardage. My stash is all by the yards. I have bought a few fat quarters in the past.

I will not buy another jellyroll. (I have to remind myself of this because i find them hard to resist) Too many times now I have run into a strip that was not 2 1\2 inches or had a bend in the middle.
I had some fat quarters that I found on sale and they were perfect for just hooping up to test embroidery designs or to make a nice sized quilt sandwich to practice fmq.

I bought fat quarters when the quilt shop had a sale 25 for $25.00
I have used some for the fat quarter exchange at Guild (the blue ones) and a few flowered ones...the rest are ..somewhere.

my DGDIL makes darling pieced placemats and napkin sets from fatquarters chosen individually.

I generally prefer yardage, but as I make a lot of scrappy patterns and some smaller projects like table toppers and runners, I have a nice fat quarter collection to add pop to my quilts. I will admit to buying some charm packs and have yet to figure out how to use them and just bought my first jelly rolls to see what I can do with those. I think I need to stick to my yardage and fat quarters (only when on sale).

I refuse to buy pre-cuts, although I have received FQ's and jelly rolls as gifts. I can possibly see the "value" of trying them, if a person didn't know if they were even going to like quilting, but you pay through the nose for that value, in my opinion anyway.

I mostly buy half-yard cuts. I find that is a good mix of variety (I love scrappy!), price and options to cut either WOF or 18 inches wide. Only if I know I will use a fabric as a border in a project do I prefer to buy more.

I buy pre-cuts as in jelly rolls, layer cakes etc. It would cost me too much time to have it cut. Pre-cuts save me so much time and effort and I like the fact that the entire line of fabric is already there for me. Nothing worse than finding a line of fabric you like and the QS does not have all of the fabrics.
