coming from a "famous" sewer, this is very comforting
and a very wise perspective. I copied it for my
playroom. Thank you, Champagnolle

The Amish ALWAYS put it a "mistake" in all their quilts as GOD is the only perfect person. I agree with the Amish and always have a "mistake" in my quilts. I am also a "rescue collector" I hunt thrift stores, garage sales, rummage sales and dumpsters for quilt pieces and quilts. I feel that someone put their heart and soul into this creative outlet and have to honor them and their creativity I "rescue them" and hopefully someone will appreciate the finished product.

Nice thoughts! I should remember them. I may copy them down and set them on my desk where I can see them.

Someone else on this forum gave good advise. "Don't tell anyone about your mistakes on your quilt."

That makes sense to me -- if you give someone a beautiful quilt and point out the mistake, that is all they will look for each time.

Also, the recipient of your quilt might think you are giving them your second best, so they won't really value it.

It is such a balance...I don't mind constructive criticism, but I try to balance it with the idea I did the best I could. We strive so hard to be perfect, the mistakes are what keeps us humble.

Yes, and on this forum, people tell what's wrong with their work when they post a picture. Many times I can't find the mistake. The only ones that need to be concerned about mistakes or imperfections would be judges at a quilt show. Frankly, I'm just glad toget a project done and go on to a new one.

One element we struggle with as a society, I believe, is graciousness. Many times when given a compliment I mentally have to remind myself to smile and say "thank you". It seems most of us have that knee jerk reaction to belittle ourselves, our efforts, or our possessions-whatever is being complimented. What I remind myself is that when I belittle someone's compliment I'm basically saying, at the very least: "Wow you really have no taste do you?" Because that's how I feel when I give a sincere compliment and the response is to belittle what I've said. We just need to remind ourselves "smile and say thank you, smile and say thank you".
