Is it all of them or just the last couple? I'll add more pictures later and once I know what ones aren't showing up I can put them on here again, too.

Well let's see if the pic of the 99 and the 15 will show up if I try it again:

My DGD Miss M loves this little Singer 99 - it is her favorite - she will test other machines but she goes back to this one all the time.

Miss L prefers the Singer 15 - me too:

Thanks for posting miriam, I've never used a hand crank before and would like to pick up or convert a couple. There's a Maker's Fair coming up and I think the children would really enjoy it. You mentioned you've done this to several machines, where/who do you get your cranks from and are any machines/models particularly good for the conversion?

[QUOTE=miriam;7027782]Learning to use a Hand Crank sewing machine:

First find a machine with a hand crank - make sure it is in working order.

    haha. Ay, there's the rub!

thank you for this great post Miriam.
Now....if I could only find that elusive hand crank! I am intrigued by your suicide knob idea....so creative. I will have to do a little research on that to see if that would at least might get me started.

    Miriam,

When people use their left hand behind the needle they aren't always trying to pull the work through. Sometimes they are trying to keep it straight because the foot and feed dogs are out of alignment and the machine twists the work as it passes under the foot. I can't begin to count how many of the machines I've worked on were out of alignment.

So add to your list of requirements for a HC machine: Make sure the presser foot and feed dogs are properly aligned so the work will feed straight through the machine and not twist to either side.

joe, thanks for that info! For all of my enthusiasm and wanna be-ness I am still quite a rookie. I have a lot of machines that do that. I guess I thought to myself....why and how would they get out of alignment. I am always playing with the pressure of the presser foot in hopes of lessening that issue.
