I backed my quilt with a Robert Kaufman herringbone flannel. I'm thinking of folding the flannel backing over and using it for the binding. Has anyone else done this with flannel? It is a good brand of flannel. I'm just not sure if it will hold up like cotton. Any thoughts?

I have 2 flannel quilts bound with flannel. Can't tell that it wears any worse than regular cotton. We use them every day in the winter & they are washed at the end of the season unless they need laundering sooner. Were made in 07 and 08.

This is the method I always used to bind my quilts when I first started quilting as it was the way my MIL did hers. By the time the binding was showing a lot of wear, the rest of the quilt was well worn too. I'm not sure about the flannel you are using but if this quilt is not an heirloom or heading to a competition, it should be fine.

I do this a lot with flannel quilts--never had a problem. I have a flannel quilt my great-grandmother made for me over forty years ago--the quilt itself is very worn, but the binding (fold over) looks great!

I've made quite a few flannel quilts and bound them with flannel, but not the way you are considering doing it. I cut binding strips and bound them normally. That said, the oldest flannel quilt I made is about 15 years old and it's wearing fine.

I have never used flannel with binding because the binding is the place that will show any wear first.

I have made one quilt this way. Not sure how its wearing as I gave it as a baby gift. I will say that the corners were a little bulkier and harder to miter... but it all worked out fine

I did flannel binding on several flannel quilts, big ones and baby quilts. I haven't had any problems.

flannel is a finish, cotton is a fabric fiber. Most likely your flannel IS COTTON. If you preshrunk the flannel, I'd not worry about it.
