Why "Y" seams?

Why "Y" seams?
I purchased some Tula Pink fabrics from the acacia collection and want to showcase the raccoon in a center block on point. The center block would be cut at 6.5in . I saw the Peaks and Valley's quilt made out of the fabrics and that it might work. Finding the pattern from the APQ October 2013 has not been easy.
in the mean time I thought I would design something similar and make a practice block. Lol this is more challenging than I thought. Soooo many "Y" seams. Not sure if the real pattern would work or even if it had a center block.
I am open to other ideas to use a center block that will also showcase the other fabrics.
Any ideas?

Y seams allow more creativity in how to put things together. They aren't that difficult.
But if you don't like them, there are usually ways to work around them. Just be creative, grid it all out, and find another way. (In this case, it looks like you could make a strip instead of using that whole big block.)

couldn't you assemble it in squares like this? there would be some additional seams in the white sashing, but I don't think it would detract from the overall design.
