I made this quilt for our man cave. My two teenage sons enjoy it. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...sy-t75757.html

Don't know how you feel about curves, but this guy makes it seem easy enough. And he makes a very "male" quilt. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJvnKfqopF0

As a middle/high school teacher I would suggest not using "computer themed fabric"- what is trending in technology changes so quickly it would be an "old school quilt" within a year. If he isn't the shopping type, to go look at fabric- are there websites you like to order from? There are several good ones he could look at that would solve the fabric choices, and that will lead you to the right pattern choice.

Labrinth is a good choice, Carpenters Star or if he is young enough or just "geeky" enough Mind Craft (computer game my grands spend wayyyyyyy to much time playing ) Last, thought a puzzle quilt or anything that is strongly geometrical. O I just remembered one I was considering for a teen boy, tessellations.

Take him window shopping on the internet to find out what types of patterns and fabrics appeal to him.

depends on his age. for my 13 yr old grdsns, I made a D9P with black as the center block. the uncut squares were 2 browns I alternated. and the '2.5 in strips' were neutral. all kinds of different neutral's. worked great.

If he likes games---there Chess fabric and a take 5 pattern would be nice. or maybe use other game fabric also.

I had my DGS pick the pattern and colors he wanted for his graduation quilt. He picked Storm at Sea in bright yellow and red. I would never have chosen those fabrics for him. Came out looking good and he loves it.
