    Default crock pot oatmeal

Well last nite with threatening ice storm, I decided to try my hand at making crock pot oatmeal so that everyone here this morning would have a warm breakfast. The recipe called for 1 cup of steel cut oats, 3 cups of water and set on low. Well since im a dump cook, I just took 2-3 cups of oatmeal ( not instant added some sugar , some dried strawberries I had on hand and covered with water. Set it on low and this morning-wow. After the guys were done eating-I gave some to my chickens which they loved it since its so cold out. There are lots of recipes on the net for crockpot oatmeal. Its a good thing!

I have made the steel oats crockpot recipe, and I like it but it is different from regular oatmeal. My husband did not care for it but he usually doesn't like anything new I try.

Here is a baked oatmeal recipe that is great and freezes well. I usually cut it in half when I make it. My grandchildren love it

Baked Oatmeal Makes 2 9x13 pans

    Ingredients:
8 cups of Oats Topping: 1 tsp. cinnamon (add to your liking)
4 cups of Quick Oatmeal ½ brown sugar (add to your liking
8 eggs beaten (Split between two pans)
    2 cups brown sugar
    2 cups white sugar
    2 Tablespoons Baking Powder
    2 cups oil
    4 cups milk
    4 tsp. vanilla extract
    Pinch of salt

    Directions:
    1. Use BIG bowl: mix eggs, sugar, and oil together (liquids)
    2. Add milk and vanilla
    3. Fold in dry ingredients
    4. Pour into both greased pans
    5. Sprinkle top with brown sugar and cinnamon

Bake at 350 for 35-55 minutes
Toothpick should be a bit wet when done.

I mix a 3 serving amount in a microwave pot and put it in the fridge overnight. It just takes a few minutes next morning.

I enjoy my oatmeal on the firmer side. I will usually just boil fair amount of water, add my serving of oatmeal (regular old fashioned type not the quick kind) then cover it and turn off the heat. I leave it about 5-8 minutes and drain off the excess water. It's perfect every time.

I make everyone in my family gag when I eat this, which is often. Regular oatmeal cooked in the microwave, cooked pretty dry. Add a bit of butter and salt, then top with a fried egg. mmmmmmm delish.

I love oatmeal but I cook mine with milk instead of water - add craisins, sweetner, yum!

Y'all are making me hungry! I love oatmeal. Only thing is, it doesn't stay with me. I'm always hungry a little while later. Maybe ill try it with the egg on top

Try making it with milk instead of water and see if it helps.
