I have gotten so many pincushion ideas from the pincushion and needlecase swap on this board. There are so many talented ladies. I've also found hundreds on Pinterest. It has become addictive trying to figure out which one I want to make next. I love the weight of the walnuts in the pincushions.

I've made them out of tea cups, or almost anything N all different shapes but my all time favorite is one I received from a qb member years ago. It looks like a mini purse, the long pins are my favorite to use and it's thick enough they don't poke through, it's big enough I can categorize the shorts from longs, and handle to easily carry it

I made this one... the top and bottom squares are 8 x 8 and the sides are 3 inches tall. It's huge. It doesn't move and doesn't get lost. I also like it because it gives me a spot to place extra bobbins, tools, thread etc and I can carry it from place to place if need be. There are 100 button head pins in it in the photo plus other pins and needles that I use frequently and other stuff that I like to keep close by when I am working.

A dear "secret sister" several years ago heard me say I always wanted a wool pincushion, made me this one for Christmas. It is 3" x 4" and is stuffed with wool and emmery. Love it! She used a circle of wool, a circle of cotton and an old fashioned button for the top. Simple and sweet! Perfect!

The only drawback is, I have to hide it between sewing sessions, or my big cat, Bruno, will pull all the pins out, and leave them in a nice neat pile. He is neat about it, but they are pins, so no toy for Bruno. Lol!

My perfect pincushion is one that my daughter's boxer doesn't want to eat nor does my lab/beagle mix want to, either!
He has eaten 3 of them - after carefully, somehow, removing all the pins first.

I love making pin cushions for gifts, but for myself I use a magnetic pin dish. I love how I can just throw a pin into it's general vicinity and the magnet pulls it in. So quick. So easy. I have no patience for sticking pins into anything because I've been spoiled from using these magnetic pin dishes for way too long.
