I did that, too. I bought some men's suit jackets and a couple of women's wool knit sweaters. Put them in my washer with a little detergent, washed them with hot water, and then dried them on the hottest setting. I will cut them apart now. I got the sweaters for 50 cents and the jackets for $5. Using new wool is so cost prohibitive. I'd appreciate hearing anyone's sources of wool.

You pieces are fantastic!

I have done and still do a lot of wool applique over the years. All is from used wool clothing or blankets bought at thrift stores, cut apart, (don't bother trying to save fabric from the seams) washed, dried and ironed. Make sure pieces say 100% wool! It makes the most beautiful completed pieces!

Great work and they both make you smile. I love the look of the wool applique but haven't tried it yet.

I have done quite a bit of this and did all the preparation of the fabrics. Foreign made garments tend to shrink better. US treats the wool so it won't shrink. Sue Spargo is a site where she has felted wool, thread, buttons and other color coordinated items.

Felt Christmas Stocking: I had the itch to do wool applique. I saw a kit at HL for $10. What was I thinking? Not the same thing at all. I started it this morning. I'm in a quilting slow spot.
All the sequins and beads!!!!
And then sewing the pieces together doesn't come out nicely.
