Rutabaga-how do you fix them?

I use my large knife and tap it with my kitchen hammer to split it in half and then slice the halves. I then cube it, put it in a pot with water to cover and simmer until tender. I drain off the water, put it back on the stove until dry and use my potato masher to mash it. It is delicious but I would like to know how others prepare it?

There is nothing like a fresh rutabaga! They are easier to peal than the store bought ones (Too Dried Out!). I cube them. Cook them in water, a bacon slice and salt and pepper in a pressure cooker for 5 or 6 minutes. Soo good with chicken and rice dressing with a pone of cornbread.

I peel the rutabagas and cut into cubes, then I peel a few carrots and cut them up also and boil them together with a 1/2 teaspoon to teaspoon of white sugar ( sweetens them a bit) We also boiled the rutabagas and carrots together then mash when done.....tasty

We have them every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Peel them like potatoes I try to be busy doing something else so my sister has to peel them. They are hard to peel and cut in chunks. Haha. We boil them with some crisco oil and pepper and salt. That's how we do it.

I cook rutabagas with butternut squash and mash them together and place a blackened chicken breast on the puree, and the patients think they are dining 5 star. I also side it with fresh grilled pineapple for a very nice presentation

I start off boiling cubed pieces then cut up carrots after a few minutes. I then add cubed potatoes. Once all cooked, mash them up. Sometimes we just have them as plain mashed and sometimes I use it for the topping of a shepherds pie.
FYI - if you put root veggies in microwave for a few minutes, it will be much easier to cut up. You need to try your particular microwave but I usually do this for 5 mins for a good sized rutabaga
