Gorgeous fabrics. Right now I am leaning towards the first. I like the clear definition to the pattern. But I also agree with sewbizgirl to play with layouts before sewing the units together. Sometimes the units look great until you get a bunch of them together. Then it looks like a cartoon character that ate a box of crayons threw up! At least in my case it did.

Marion, you have 3 blocks in each of 3 rows. I suggest you cut all your 9 colors first, and then play with the layouts. For example, if you choose a two-color mix for each two blocks, you will be happy with those two next to each other. But what about the third block in that row? You need to see for yourself how all nine blocks look next to each other before you begin to combine and sew. Best of luck to you. I'm putting my money on your first choice, one color for each block.

I like the first one as well. I think when you put all kinds of different colours together (but one colour per block) it is going to look fabulous.

Show me 4 blocks with placement like #3 with white coming next to the color of the adjacent block. I think I like the big Vs coming together to make a secondary design.

I like #2. However, I can't envision how all the other fabrics would look. For that reason, I'll vote for #1.

I like #1 if you want soothing. The other one is great too, but has your eye moving hither and yon. I agree about the odd number of blocks in a row, how are you going to lay them out? With batiks, any way you do it you can't miss. I love batiks.

If your whole quilt were only two colors plus white, then the alternating is very eye catching and still orderly. However, I think that using all those colors could result in a busy look. While I love scrappy quilts, I would not go scrappy on this one. Good luck deciding!
