Use a shower curtain or get a cheap tarp. DH has a cheap tarp he got for $5.00.

Good hint to use the roller. I believe the Elmer's Glue is a type of liquid cornstarch. It is not harmful to kids, the environment, or our quilts. Glad you all have had god luck with it.

I did an Elmer's glue basting demo at my guild and since then people are coming up to me months later and telling me it changed their lives. It makes basting not an issue--not a major part of the quilt making any more. I don't know anyone who's tried it who hasn't switched to doing it. I now call it Elmering. It's such a pleasure when basting used to take so many hours.

I use purple glue sticks all the time. It washes out.

I did try 505, but the fumes and stink were a problem, so I tried Elmer's school glue. It worked so well, and washed out so nice, that I now order it on Amazon by the gallon. Give it a try on a potholder. That is what I did. Figured if it left marks, the hot pans would not mind.

I too have used the purple glue sticks. Dries clear, washes out just like the others.

My favorite use for the glue is using it to "pin" long rows together. i just go dot...dot...dot, hit it with an iron and have perfectly matched seams. It sews so quickly without pins to mess with and no getting pricked.
