Default border costs

Hello Quilters...........to all my fellow Canadians......what kind of charges are you hit with at the border when buying from Craftsy. I know that CT's has no charges but am looking into other places.

I buy a fair amount from the states and have not encountered any extra charges at the border.

I've never had any additional charges when ordering from Craftsy. I just received a giant box with over $300 of fabric, and there were no customs or duties charges.

I have ordered from a number of American shops, and the only time I had a customs charge was when I bought EQ7 - fabric and supplies have always made it through for free.

That is interesting to know. My quilting friends who have traveled to Canada are so shocked at the cost of fabric you have to pay for American fabric. You might also check into my favorite online quilt shop Fabric Shack located in Ohio for what they charge internationally shipping.

You can always request receipts be mailed by them selves. And have "Gift" printed on the label or next to it.

Please contact Missouri Star Quilt Company in Hamilton, Missouri, USA. They have good products at reasonable prices and reasonable shipping charges. I cannot even begin to explain the selection. I am not sure what their website is, but they do have a web site. Try MSQC.com. I was absolutely appalled at the prices for fabric when I visited Europe.

Sorry, but this is illegal and a lot of shops clearly specify that they won't do that because they
could get in big trouble if they get caught. Plus you won't gain anything. Fabric from USA is
duty free anyway.

The only thing I've had to pay brokerage and GST on (no duty) was an order of thread from BobbinCentral (Fil-Tec)
As best I know, all fabric that my cousin has ordered has always been duty free. (I haven't ordered any across the border yet)

I have never had to pay duty, as others have said. If the package comes via USPS/Canada Post, then no brokerage. If they ship via a courier then there is a brokerage fee which can be $30-$50. I always check how the company intends to ship it, as I was surprised in a not nice way once, (not a quilting related package but a USA origin package).
