It wasn't a kit, all the colors were decided before I even went into my LQS. Once I got there I went straight to the batiks and pulled as many as I could that fit within the color scheme I had decided. Once they were layer out how they should be I started pulling in other fabrics to fill it in where it needed to be filled in. We left the bolts on the color table for about a half hour while I chatted elsewhere and did some other shopping. I would go back to them every so often to make sure I really liked how everything flowed. Then I tried to make sure there were no patterns that popped out drastically since I wanted the quilt to read as solids further away, while the intricacies were seen under closer inspection.

While it is a bear putting together with all the pinning, I am satisfied I made the right choices in fabrics. I also think I figured out what the backing fabric should be. Since I will have to piece the backing I am using 2.5 inch squares to make blocks that will be used on the back, all of them are from the front of the quilt. So in essence it will be a quilt within a quilt.

Default 2 Quarter of the quilt...

Well the second quarter of the quilt is on the design board ready to get sewn together after I finish the last couple rows on the first quarter. Well almost the 2nd quarter, I still have 3 more columns to add...oops, darn Nyquil.
