Default $70, Light wt machine--do you have

I have seen ads for several different brands of light weight machines. They usually are in the $70 to $90 price range and are name brands, like Bernina. Have anyone purchased one of these? Are you happy with it? I think it would be good for retreats. Please share your experiences.

I don't know if the cheapest Bernina model is that price, but I do know that the Cheapest Bernina Model is not warranted like the other models. The dealers do not recommend it. It is not made in Sweden like the other Berninas are.

Yes. Janome has a model for $50.00. Great for beginners such as preteens who want a machine that performs like the larger ones and don't deter like the little toy ones that really don't last long at all. Some have only a few stitches (20 maybe few more) but can be used for various projects that aren't heavy duty. Bought my niece a Janome for $50.00 and she loves it. She comes over to my house and her gma's for other projects.

My Bernina was made in Switzerland or am I wrong. The pink Bernette have been selling for $299 on eBay with full retail being $499.

I purchased a Singer that was on sale at Hancock Fabrics for around $70 a couple of years ago. I took it to a class and then took it back to the store the next day. It was so noisy I couldn't hear and it bounced all over the table when I sewed. I bought a Singer Featherweight and love it. I even took it to the beach on vacation so I could sew when DH was watching tv. I have a Bernina Bernette and it's the worst machine I have ever owned. I paid close to $300 for it and I am hoping to sell it on Craigslist so I can get something else.

I have a little Brother that I got on sale at a big box store for less than $100 several years back. It's a little work horse and I love it.

I bought one for my granddaughter who's just beginning to sew...but it's not a machine is want to spend time on. Just feels like a toy.

I bought myself husquvana viking 100h at cost of £200 to take to classes. It is light with many functions of expensive machines and is great.

If I saw any new Bernina for $70 I'd faint. Walmart will have the Brother lx 301414 machine for $50 on Black Friday and the Brother Project Runway 100 stitch machine for $99. But the best deal right now is on the Brother cs600i 60 stitch computerized machine for $149. Maybe cheaper then that at Amazon.
