I cut the selvage off and toss. I have enough scraps to feel guilty about.

For 20+ years I cut the selvage off and added the fabric to my stash. About 2 years ago I purchased some Christmas fabric from Walmart and used all but one small piece. I have 2 sisters who would love to have table runners made from that fabric and I have no idea what the line was called or who the manufacturer is so I can search the web for more. I now make sure I leave the selvage with information on the fabric until I use the last little bit.

Life's too short to worry about that stuff. If I want to keep the selvages, I cut them off and keep them. I have way too much fabric to worry about going and trying to find more of an old one. On to the next!

I do cut the selvage off but only save a small strip so I will be able to identify the fabric should I need more to finish a project later on. Call me wasteful but I do not like sewing such small pieces of fabric together.

The small cottage business that turns out one or two quilts with those fabrics is not who they consider "commercial". You are not a factory, manufacturing quantities of quilts to sell wholesale to a retailer. Believe me, they are not going to hunt you down. It isn't cost effective. Use the fabrics as you wish and don't worry about it.

I try to check fabrics before I purchase them now so I don't end up with such nonsense, but I have a few of them in my stash that I only use for family quilts.

I always cut the salvage and staple onto the pattern that I am making so I remember which fabric I used

I cut all my selvages 1" from the edge and save them. I don't need the info. I had a full garbage bag full, sorted by color and started making 10" squares on paper foundation squares from MSQC to use as a picnic quilt. Here are a couple to show you what I mean.

I do not use selvages. I have so much fabrics that I will not live long enough to sew. For me sewing selvages just isn't doable. I really don't like the looks of them.
