If you go to YouTube Jenny Doan has a tutorial called "Shannon Cuddle Cloth quilts ( cuddle cloth is the same as minkee- they are brand names) and she does a binding with it.

Our guild uses minky for backing of hospice quilts. I have quilted several on my Sweet 16 and found it best, after quilting, to cut the minky about 2" beyond the quilt, then turn it up on top and sew it down as a self binding. Did some by machine and some by hand and either way I think it looks really nice that way. Not sure cutting binding from the minky would work as easily. I prefer not to use batting on these as the minky is heavy enough by itself. I think those who are ill might not want quilt to be very heavy. Good luck with your project.

I saw a couple quilts done using minky. They put together two pieces of minky, no quilting, then took about a 2" wide strip of minky and using the clips, and rounded corners, sewed binding on one side and then flipped over and sewed the other. It was raw edge. I think they used a fine zigzag. Since minky does not fray, it looked good and could not see stitching. If it bothers you, you could glue the binding on, matching edges on both sides and do a fancy stitch to attach.

It would certainly be a challenge to work with. I have some pre-packaged fleece type binding that looks manageable, but I haven't tried it yet.

Like a previous poster, I have pieced cotton binding horizontally when I just didn't have a wide enough piece. it wasn't for the whole length of the binding. The piecing went on the inside and didn't show at all. I was surprised at how well that worked. Nobody else knew the difference!

I personally would not use Minky, I had a friend that had put it on the back of a baby quilt and I helped with the binding (which was out of cotton fabric), and it was a pain. You have to take a much larger bite into the backing to be able to fasten it. That is just my take on it.

I never pick a binding until my quilt is finished. Buy something different that goes with the quilt.

I've used minky for binding. It is real easy. Cut the strips. I cut the strips with my rotary cutter blade on one side, and with my wave rotary cutter on the other side. I cut the strips 1 1/4 inch wide. Sew the straight edge of the binding to the back of the quilt. Fold it over so the wave cut side is on the front of the machine. Sew it down. Minky doesn't fray. I think it looks nice.

Minky is so fussy and messy to work with I can't imagine doing binding with it. I rarely bind my quilts with fabric I've used in the quilt. I use something that compliments and adds some pizzaz to the quilt. Do you have any cotton in your stash that will work?

Any fabric that will blend or contrast will work for binding. I don't like cutting Minkee fabric at all. I did it one time and once was enough. It made a big mess to clean up. There are plenty of soft blankets to buy, I'll stick to making fabric quilts.
