    It looks similar to a quilt on Sewing with Nancy which is a variation of log cabins.

    The only thing I notice is the dark blue forming a T. Just replace the one piece with the dark blue star fabric. You're quilt is going to be beautiful and what a wonderful gift for a veteran.
