Default sewing trouble

I am working on this quilt. I forget the name of it but I take a 12 inch square of fabric then I lay my ruler on the fabric and cut anywhere so long as it is a straight line, add a thin piece of fabric of another color then sew on the other piece then I lay the ruler on again in a different place and do it all again. The problem I am finding I will normally have some sort of angle so sewing them back together I can not match up sides or corners I have tried to use pins but I still am not able to get it to look just right. things just don't line up quite right

I've made a quilt like that a couple of times. They won't match up again. You end up with a non uniform look...points won't be pointed etc.

Do you have a 12-1/2" square ruler to square them up, all to the same size. If some are 1" or more smaller, you will have to add to them to make them the same size. Or make them all 11-1/2" or whatever your size is. You do not have to make a 12-1/2" square all over a quilt. If you don't have a square ruler, take printer paper and make one. Use the straight sides where you can. I hope this helps. I personally would add to the squares to make them all 12-1/2". You need 12-1/2" to be able to sew 1/4" on each side. Good luck.

I agree with ragamuffin. Just trim them down but make them all the same size.

It will get wonky while adding those strips. When finished, you have to recut to size needed...it's just like acrylic quilt block, slash, resew, re-square......
