There's also http://www.quincysquilting.com/
They're at all of the local shows here and advertise free shipping with no minimum. The gals are pretty friendly when I chat with them while fondling fabric.

I live about an hour from Hamels. Their shop has so many fabulous fabrics that it is very dangerous to the bank account so I don't go that often. They also have super stitcher weekends the first weekend of the month when all fabric from the bolt is on sale. I am quite certain on-line sales qualify. Weird, I haven't received my email about that yet this week. Must be coming tomorrow.

Wineberry Fabrics is no longer a brick and mortar store. Sometime in February they are launching an on-line store. They had some really nice fabrics when they were brick and mortar.

Along Came Quilting is a great store with which to deal online. She is super helpful. The first time I dealt with her she phoned me long distance because she had the fabric I wanted but not all in one piece and she was concerned I would be disappointed.

The only dealing I have had with Sew Sisters is when I emailed them with a question and no one got back to me.

There is also A Great Notion. They have almost every notion and gadget you can think of.

Now that is definitely enticing .... free shipping plus no minimum!
Saves a lot of calculating to see if it really is a good deal when all is factored in. No surprises!

5pm EST ... I called and left a voicemail. Now to see how fast they return the call.

to Sew-Sisters! It's disappointing when a store does not follow through with customer service.

In contrast, to Hamels ... I recently emailed them and heard from them without delay. As the discussion continued with further emails, they were quite helpful and even sent some photos of a store sample.

I agree! I rarely buy $200 at a time, unless it's at wholesale (batting or backings - I can do that as a LA quilter) so smaller minimums are great. I -think- they're in Fort MacMurray, based on the fact that they've scheduled classes there and only there but don't quote me on that. It does make their area code make sense though.

6pm .... she called me back, so that is good!

I am looking for some specific fabrics that I found on their site.
Am going to scan and send them, so she can compare.

Price is about the same as what I would pay here and after being to four stores and not finding them, I am ready to try an online shop.

ArchaicArcane ... When I was talking to her, she said she was in Edmonton. Maybe just goes back and forth a lot, to service the Ft Mac quilters!

Ohh! That's really great! I'm about 20mins from the north end of Edmonton so I bet I could have it dropped somewhere for me and pick up same day, or maybe get it to my door in a day or so.

There would certainly be a good market in Ft Mac and a lot of $ (the current economy possibly not withstanding.)

Hamels in Chilliwack is amazing, they have a wonderful selection, very helpful staff and free shipping over $200! Quilted Bear in Ladner (I think it's Ladner) is also very good. Shirley's Sewing room in Moosomin is another good one. Earthly Goods in Edmonton has an excellent selection and fabulous staff. There's also a very nice shop in Canmore but I can't recall the name of it. You could have a great road trip out west! We do love our quilt shops!

Two more sites that haven't been listed are:

http://www.madaboutpatchwork.com Stittsville, ON

http://www.kidsfabrics.com Kelowna, BC

I have ordered from both, on several occasions and always got great service.

these guys sell polyester batting (amazing price!), cotton/poly blend broadcloth (huge range of colors), pillow ticking and muslin at really good prices.

I have dealt with Along Came Sewing. I found her service excellent and her fabric is good quality, however, I always find the website difficult to manouevre. It is difficult to browse all fabric; you can only browse by manufacturer.
