Major disaster, broken hook

I was given this Pfaff 130 doorstop a few months back, and decided to give it a go, more or less for practice. There's a lot of work between it's first week immersed in diesel, and the smooth machine it turned out to be. Not pretty, but sooo precise in its stitching. In short, I love it and it's valuable to me now.
Jammed it up real good the other day while sewing, classic case of thread in the bobbin/hook assembly. Completely stuck, unable to rotate. Got out all the manuals, read up on opening the assembly and taking the lower casing out of the base. Because the case needs to rotate to slip out of the base, I just couldn't get it out. Tried heat and fluids. Got to impatient and managed to break the hook. Then, of course, the lower case budged and I got it out.

One good thing. Now I have it out, I realize there was a lot of resistance in the assembly before I jammed it. Some really hard packed oil/lint gunk in there that needed to come out.

Last few hours I've been all over the Internet trying to locate parts. Have a few requests out, hoping for the best. In the meantime I even fantasize about repairing the broken hook.
So, apart from a virtual group hug and some sympathy, I have two things to ask in the forum:

Anybody have any experience soldering/gas welding small parts like this? I guess the carbon content is very high...

I've sent Guy Baker a mail, and then there is eBay. Where else to look for parts?
