Mary I will show you a sample when I get the embroidery done on a big put together block. I will try to do that soon.

I finished sewing a coaster, and cut out a second one like it to finish for my youngest sister's birthday to send off Monday.

I also just went into the bedroom while hubby is gone. He had to pick up a few things. I spread out the front middle and back of a baby quilt, and sprayed on some of that spray basting. I did what I heard - to just spray on both sides of the batting. It is the first time I have tried that. Hubby bought me a can of it in with some Christmas things he thought I would like. It kills my back to bend over a lot. It did go so fast. The baby quilt is big blocks of pink alternating with white. Well, pink printed tiny kitties, and the big white blocks I hand embroidered cute baby type pictures. I like how it turned out. The quilting will tell all though. lol... My favorite embroidered block is a cute baby buggy design I found.

I found lots of cute patterns that can be used for hand embroidery by looking up coloring pages in different categories. My mother use to buy coloring books just for that reason.

Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to hand quilt around the white embroidered blocks?

Lynnie, that sounds like a good idea using a pretty design. All of my hand embroidery on the white blocks is in a pretty deep pink. How do I quilt around them? Then they alternate with the colored pink blocks that are a kitty print. I am doing a bit of basic quilting right now on it before doing a design quilting. It is going to be more like a baby comforter, because the batting is a high loft.

Hi Kiffie!!! Missed seeing you.
Hi Klaws, I've missed being here, and you!!!! It's good to be back!

JuneBillie,
The friendship coaster you sent me is beautiful! Matter of fact, I need to post a pic of it...
I use spray baste all the time. But only 505, because it never gums up my needle or thread and I can actually spray it inside and there's no fumes. I order mine from sewforless because they have the large cans for such a great price.

I found a set of 4 awesome videos on YouTube that are all about each step of free motion quilting using a domestic machine. They include spray basting tips. If anyone wants to check them out, here's a link:

Kiffie - I am glad you like your coaster. I am trying to do similar for my youngest sister. The other sister didn't know what they were. lol. Bless her heart, but she never liked the same type things as me and our youngest sister. I need to make her a tote sometime made out of denim, because she likes that type thing more so. The youngest sister likes pretty, and more modern things, but the youngest sister can't sew, crochet or any of those type things at all. My youngest sister would love one of those panty coin pouches, but I have never made one.

Dotty I am sure you are close to many nice fabric shops where you live aren't you?

I love where I live, but I have to travel for many things.

Growing up I lived in Chicago so we pretty much could walk to anything we needed, but not now. lol...

I think their are so many nice things in both the big cities and the country.

I will have to watch that link of the video too Kiffie. I am always ready to watch or read anything that is helpful.
