Default Quilting design for apple core quilt?

For those of you who have made Apple core quilts, what design did you use when you quilted it? I have a top with large apple cores cut from a layer cake and no borders that I need to quilt.

I made a small table topper, maybe 24" square, and just followed the curves about 1/4" inside the patches.

The example I saw that I liked best had a curvy X quilted inside the apple core.

Made a small quilt lap size and followed the seams echoing on both sides. Ended up as a dog quilt due to purple and red colours running.

I will be watching this. I have an apple core that I have no idea how to quilt.

I just quilted in the ditch on mine. Mine is small, about 20 x 30.

Never made one, but would probably do every other core with some type of modern looking quilting--so there would be an overall checker board pattern.
